R.I.P. Harriet
My last post was about the loss of Spookie. Today my post is about the loss of Harriet. It happens when you have older pets doesn't it. Harriet was my bird and she died on February 3, 2012. I found her when I came home from work. She had had a surgery 3 days earlier and while everyone said surgeries on birds rarely work I felt that I owed it to Harriet to at least try and give her that chance. In the future I too would never recommend that to anyone. Harriet was 23 years old and was a dusky headed conure. I got Harriet when I lived in Oklahoma City. She traveled with me for the past 23 years from her birth place in Edmond, Oklahoma to Toledo, Ohio to, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Detroit, Michigan to Greensboro, North Carolina to Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was a fiesty old bird and was never sick a day in her life until she had something called a cloaca prolapse. It came on suddenly, she had a minor surgery but just didn't/couldn't recover from it. I showed the kitties her body so they would not woner why she was just gone one day. They understood, I could tell, but they still miss her. Two of them go in the kitchen to look for her cage and one has been sleeping there each night, as if he was waiting for her to come back, or maybe Walter just feels her spirit still there. I miss Harriet's loud booming voice and soft little spirit. God Speed Harriet!

Ever Lost A Pet...
I'm not talking about the kind of "losing a pet" where there is a chance that she will return kind of "losing a pet." I'm talking about finality. For some reason I have never thought about my beloved family member dying. But she did. Instead of allowing her to go through the coma, seizures, froathing I did the most loving and humane thing I could do. That was to allow her to drift off peacefully. God Speed Spookie Lou....Go toward the light! Ron is waiting for you.
